60 MEPs want to stigmatize Hezbollah – why MEP Udo Voigt is against it
The European Parliament is to become even more Israeli-dependent: that is what about 60 deputies want, who call in a letter to the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, to completely condemn the Lebanese Hezbollah as a „terrorist organization“. So far, only the military branch of Hezbollah is classified as a terrorist group, while the political branch is represented in the Lebanese Parliament since 1992; a corresponding decision was made by the EU in 2012. This is „outrageous“, according to the letter co-initiated by the Swedish Christian Democrat Adaktusson and the Hungarian Social Democrat Péter Niedermüller, because Hezbollah „interferes in conflicts“ and „destabilizes“ several states.
But this is exactly what is being done to an unequal extent and for decades in violation of hundreds of UN resolutions by Israel, the German NPD MEP Udo Voigt says to his Israel-friendly colleagues. In the context of recent Israeli war threats to its neighbours, Voigt recently travelled to Lebanon, where he gained a first-hand view of who is spreading terror, murder and destabilization in the region.
During his trip, Voigt visited a martyr memorial in Qana, southern Lebanon, where the Israeli army launched a civilian massacre in April 1996. About 800 civilians had taken refuge with the UN Blue Helmets, and 127 inhabitants were killed in the artillery raid. Today’s mayor of Qana told the guest from the European Parliament that until 2006, his city was hit by Israeli artillery attacks, not just once but over and over again.
Against this background, Udo Voigt considers it necessary to formally classify Israel as a „terrorist state“, declaring: „Official documents – especially from the UN Blue Helmets – prove that practically no week goes by without Israeli army violations or attacks on the Lebanese border and attacks on Syria. A state that acts like this is a terrorist state! “
Voigts visit to Lebanon also saw a lively exchange of views with Lebanese Hezbollah MP Nawaf Moussawi, to whom the guest from Germany presented a signed copy of his recent book. MEP Udo Voigt wished Hezbollah MP Moussawi much success in his political work.
