A clear message from Moscow: ‘Yesterday Dresden, today Raqqa’

Russian Ministry of Defence recalls the extinction of Dresden

The Russian Defence Ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, drew a noteworthy comparison in connection with the conquering of the IS-fortress Raqqa by the US-led alliance. Recalling the massive devastation of the city during the month-long attacks, Konaszkow recalled the extinction of Dresden by Anglo-American air raids in February 1945 and said literally: “Raqqa took over the fate of Dresden in 1945, that was wiped of the face of the Earth by English and American air raids. ”

For Udo Voigt, the German NPD-deputy in the European Parliament, the conclusion of the Russian Ministry is a new indication that the political leadership in Moscow, unlike the Western politicians and the media, has a clear-cut consciousness of historical connections. The Russian leadership also showed “courage in naming clearly those responsible for present and past crimes of war.”

Voigt, who was twice in Syria in 2015 and 2016 to get first-hand information about the situation in the country torn by a bloody war, sees the statement of the Russian speaker in a larger political context. Voigt: “The Russian government under President Putin has, with its military commitment, successfully put an end to the illegal Western interference in Syria over the past few years. At the same time, Moscow is committed not only to Syria, but also to international observance of international rules on non -interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. The note from the Russian ministry speaker on the Anglo-American bombing holocaust in February 1945 comes after the correct reference by Russian President Putin to Germany’s ‘limited sovereignty’, in June at the 21 st St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. ”

In his capacity as a European deputy, Udo Voigt spoke to the Russian leadership of the “deep-felt thanks of German patriots for their clear words to the address of Western ‘liberators’, murderers and peoples’ enslavers.”
