Question for written answer to the Commission
The European Convention on Human Rights, the EU Charter and several EU directives place EU Member States under a binding obligation to prevent discrimination on grounds of political opinion or viewpoint. The GFR has tried to implement the requirements of European law in its General Equality of Treatment Act. Is the Commission aware at all that the list of characteristics, against which the Act prohibits discrimination, does not include discrimination on grounds of political opinion or viewpoint? Does the Commission realise that discrimination on grounds of political opinion or viewpoint therefore continues in the GFR?
1. Does the Commission consider that the omission of political opinion or viewpoint from the list of characteristics not to be discriminated against infringes the European Convention on Human Rights, the EU Charter and Directives 2003/86/EC, 2003/109/EC and 2004/38/EC?
2. What does the Commission plan to do to oblige the GFR fully to implement the directives against discrimination?
