Udo Voigt: Why the Catalan secession is to be looked upon with caution
Against the backdrop of the escalation in Catalonia, the ongoing Strasbourg plenary week is also concerned with current developments. The German NPD MEP Udo Voigt recalls that the government of the Autonomous Region of Catalonia has been pursuing a devastating immigration- and islamizationpolicy over the past few decades.

Voigt explains: “Although one understands the demand for more autonomy, the left-wing regional government in Barcelona unfortunately has a very bad track record. In order not to have to accept Spanish-speaking immigrants from South America, it preferred to open the borders to migrants from Africa and Asia. As a result, Catalonia is now one of the most aggressive bridges of Islamism north of the Mediterranean, with consequences for security throughout Europe.”
In this context, Udo Voigt also drew attention to the fact that the Catalan movement of independence is in an uncomfortable company: “As the Catalan daily newspaper ‘La Vanguardia’ reported as early as August 2016, the Open Society Foundation from the the large-scale speculative and subversive financier George Soros supported from 2014 on Catalan think tanks and lobby organizations. It is evident that Soros wants to undermine the foundations of the national order in Catalonia and to open up mass migration mechanisms as he has done in two dozen other countries over the past 20 years. “
In the light of these circumstances, the NPD-deputy in the European Parliament considers the protection of the Spanish state’s integrity as the primary objective. “It is necessary to prevent Spain from being thrown back into chaos almost 80 years after the end of the civil war, in a way that will discredit the idea of the nation state far beyond Spain.”
