Why the EU-Defence-Union is anything but a blessing for Europe
The European Union Defense Union (PESCO – “Permanent Structured Cooperation”), launched on Monday by EU foreign ministers in Brussels, is the military counterpart of the vision recently expressed by SPD-chairman and former EU Parliament President Martin Schulz of a future “United States of Europe”. Both projects are dangerous, says German NPD MEP Udo Voigt, and in no way democratically legitimized by the peoples and parliaments of the European states.
In addition, Voigt points out that the EU Defense Union, now launched, is diametrically opposed to the vital interests of free and sovereign peoples: “PESCO does not advance Europe’s military alignment with the goal of a sovereign European foreign and defense policy, but in close cooperation with NATO, which is now more than ever the extended arm of the United States, and follows in Europe a bad confrontational policy against Russia”, said Voigt. Any military integration of Europe that excludes Russia on the one hand, and cements the remote control of Europe by NATO and the United States on the other, is a bad idea.
The leveling off of the national defense capacities of the EU member states participating in PESCO should also be rejected. Udo Voigt: “A future ‘Juncker Army’, with the fusion of the national armed forces, would be just as wrong as the ‘United States of Europe’, which Martin Schulz wants to tailor to Europeans by 2025. Both projects, which were never legitimized by the European electorate and which are at least incompatible with the German constitution, are a deathtrap for a Europe of free and self-determined peoples. They must be stopped before they can do any harm. ”
